Buy a Saudi Server: Step by Step Guide

From choosing specs to payment to receiving credentials — in under 60 seconds. We walk through the complete process with CLOUD.

How to Buy a Saudi Server: From Selection to Launch

Buying a cloud server is a technical and financial decision simultaneously. Common mistakes happen when someone chooses based on price alone or relies on the provider's recommendations without understanding their needs. This guide gives you a systematic decision framework.

First: Define What You Need Before Contacting Any Provider

Questions you need to answer:

Application type: Web app? API? Database only? Corporate email? Each type has different requirements.

Usage volume: How many daily visits do you expect? How many concurrent users? Are there peak periods (like Ramadan or National Day)?

Data: Do you store personal data? Do you integrate with government entities? Are there regulatory requirements?

Team: Do you have a developer or DevOps person? Or do you need full management from the provider?

Second: Understanding Technical Specifications

vCPU: Virtual cores. For standard applications, 2 vCPU is enough. Heavy databases need 4-8. Rule: for every 100 concurrent requests per second, you need approximately 1 vCPU.

RAM: For PHP, about 30MB per process. With 100 concurrent processes = 3GB for PHP alone. Add database and OS = 8GB is a safe starting point for medium applications.

SSD: Storage. Do not just look at storage size — look at the type. NVMe is faster than SATA SSD, and both are much faster than old HDD.

Bandwidth: Monthly data transfer. A normal site with 1,000 daily visits consumes roughly 50-100 GB per month.

Third: Questions to Ask the Provider

Before signing, get clear answers to:

  1. Exact data center location — Riyadh or Jeddah? Do they own it or lease it?
  2. What SLA is guaranteed in the contract? (not just what is advertised)
  3. What is the technical support response time? P1 (server down) must not exceed 15 minutes.
  4. Is backup guaranteed? What is the frequency and retention period?
  5. How do upgrades work? Does the server need to be stopped?
  6. What is the cancellation policy? Is there a refund for the remaining balance?
  7. Does it support your intended system? (specific Linux distro, Windows Server, cPanel)

Fourth: Understanding Payment Models

Annual: Lowest price, suitable if your requirements are stable. Monthly at 20% premium: More expensive but flexible. Suitable for starting out until you know your actual needs.

On كلاود: annual offers the best value. For example, the Growth server (2vCPU/4GB) at competitive pricing — pricing and plans per year = 575 SAR per month. Monthly = 690 SAR.

Fifth: Available Payment Methods in the Saudi Market

  • Mada: Most common, instant
  • Visa/Mastercard: Available with most providers
  • Apple Pay: Available on modern platforms
  • Bank transfer: For large annual contracts (preferred for over 10,000 SAR)
  • Deferred B2B payment: Sometimes for public sector institutions

Sixth: What Happens After Purchase — First 24 Hours

Immediately after payment (must happen within one hour at most):

  • Receive server login credentials (IP, username, password or SSH key)
  • Verify connectivity to the server

In the first hour:

# Update system
apt update && apt upgrade -y

# Create new user (do not work as root)
adduser deploy
usermod -aG sudo deploy

# Activate firewall
ufw allow 22
ufw allow 80
ufw allow 443
ufw enable

Within 24 hours:

  • Install application stack (Nginx/Apache + PHP/Node + database)
  • Set up SSL
  • Test backup
  • Set up monitoring (UptimeRobot for free)
  • Document all passwords in a secure password manager

Seventh: Checklist Before Moving to Production

Do not move any production application to the new server before confirming:

  • SSL works and auto-renews
  • Database works and connection is encrypted
  • Backup works and you have actually tested restoration
  • Monitoring sends alerts to your email if the server stops
  • All default passwords have been changed
  • fail2ban is enabled (to protect SSH from brute force)

The right server is not the most expensive or the cheapest — it is the server that fits your needs with a provider that supports you when you need it.
